The President strode up to them, stepping carefully but triumphantly through the carnage. Clapping his hands and rubbing them together as if pushing away the leftovers of a sumptuous feast, he grinned delightedly, and said, "Well, that's over, and not a moment too soon, I say," and laughed heartily. His great attempt at humor met with shocked, incredulous stares.
Struggling to make conversation with others, living and sane, he asked, "Say. now that this is over and behind you, what do you plan to do with yourselves?"
Waiting a moment for an answer and receiving none, he went on and said, "The reason I ask is that, all things considered," gesturing to the wreckage behind him, "I'm going to have to form a new government, and, if any of you have ever considered careers in public service, this'll be a golden opportunity for you."
A few jaws dropped; a few heads turned away.
"I know there are a lot of heartaches and frustrations in public life, but I can tell you from my own experience there are moments, moments like this, that make it all worthwhile. So speak up! A chance like this comes only once in lifetime!"
